Together We Are Alone

A shudder shot through me.
She was the sister of the light.
She appeared as an island,
like some nocturnal animal
singing in the rain.

There is a fall in time.
Light gives way to darkness.
Palpable blackness envelops us.
Suddenly, you are seeing the Earth
in a way you’ve never seen before:
from the inside out.
I stood absorbed by the symphony of motion
moving in the weird light of flash and flame.
In long, dream-bounds
she whirled through the night
utterly beautiful -
the most natural of acts.
I find myself wandering among her in my mind.
She dances until the sun awakens.
The dawn reveals
once that would have been unthinkable:
Together we are alone.
